The SMC

The term "SMC" is the abbreviation of the French name "Service des médias, de la connectivité et de la politique numérique", which translates into English as "Department of Media, Connectivity and Digital Policy".

The SMC is part of the Ministry of State. It reports directly to the Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for Media and Connectivity and supports, since its establishment in 1991, the development of the media sector and new information and communications technologies.

The SMC works for:
  • pluralism of media and information sources in Luxembourg,
  • high-performance technological connectivity throughout the Luxembourg territory and
  • forward-looking policies that put people first.

The Department acts as a chanel for technological, societal and economic trends. It relies on its ability to anticipate in order to encourage the launch of innovative initiatives - in collaboration with stakeholders in the field - and stimulate the creation of ecosystems ready to deploy and develop the use of new technologies in Luxembourg.

Its aspiration is to achieve a society that allows us all to evolve through the availability of information and the opportunities of technology.
